Position Summary
The Resident Life Partner is an essential member of the DaySpring team. This position partners with residents to support the activities of daily life, including personal care, medication administration, meal service, meaningful programmed and spontaneous activities, housekeeping, and the general care of the cottage.
Resident Life Partners provide individualized, person-centered care through “quality-of-the-moment” programming. This approach focuses on the meaningful elements of everyday life, including socialization with friends, joy in accomplishment, and opportunities to share God’s tender mercy.
Each resident’s care is individualized through the Resident Life Partner’s ongoing awareness of and respect for the resident’s current feelings, abilities, needs, desires, and comfort. Resident Life Partners encourage residents to maintain as much independence as possible while providing compassionate assistance where needed.
Essential Responsibilities
Personal Care and Resident Support
Partner with residents to complete dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, bathing, eating, and toileting.
Recognize each resident’s ability to complete individual steps independently, encourage the resident to do so, and provide assistance to complete the remaining portions of the task.
Respond promptly and compassionately to residents’ needs.
Maintain resident rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
Observe residents for changes in health status, behavior, abilities, or emotional well-being.
Promptly report changes or concerns to the Resident Life Coordinator or designated resource person.
Spiritual Support
Engage in spiritual-support activities according to each resident’s individual needs and desires.
Provide opportunities for prayer, Bible reading, and other appropriate forms of spiritual support.
Participate in religious and spiritual staff activities and responsibilities in alignment with DaySpring’s Statement of Faith.
Demonstrate DaySpring’s mission of “Serving Older Adults with God’s Love” through daily interactions and resident care.
Meals and Household Support
Serve meals and assist residents with eating as needed.
Prepare or assist residents with preparing light snacks or breakfast.
Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning spills, and returning misplaced items to their appropriate locations.
Complete residents’ laundry, including personal clothing and linens, according to applicable washing instructions.
Work cooperatively with other team members to complete shared household responsibilities, such as making coffee and cleaning spills.
Practice economy and responsible stewardship when using supplies and equipment.
Activities and Quality of Life
Provide planned and spontaneous activities within a structured, calm environment.
Encourage socialization, participation, personal accomplishment, and meaningful daily experiences.
Remain aware of and responsive to each resident’s current feelings, comfort, interests, and abilities.
Participate in resident Life Plan meetings and problem-solving sessions.
Promote and contribute new ideas throughout the residence.
Accept appropriate changes readily and maintain a positive attitude.
Volunteer for and participate in continuous quality-improvement projects that promote DaySpring’s partnering philosophy.
Medication, Safety, and Infection Control
Administer medications correctly and according to established requirements.
Follow standard precautions and infection-control procedures.
Respond appropriately and calmly during emergency situations.
Follow all applicable resident-care, safety, and organizational procedures.
Teamwork, Training, and Professional Conduct
Work consistently and cooperatively with residents, team members, families, supervisors, consultant personnel, and ancillary service providers under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
Follow all policies and procedures of the residence and the Employee Handbook.
Complete all documentation requirements assigned by the Resident Life Coordinator.
Participate actively in orientation and training sessions.
Accept accountability for understanding and applying all information provided during orientation and training.
Ask questions and request clarification whenever instructions, expectations, or procedures are not completely clear or understood.
Maintain a reliable, flexible, positive, and cooperative approach to resident care and teamwork.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Identify with and demonstrate alignment with DaySpring’s mission, vision, and Statement of Faith.
Sign DaySpring’s Statement of Faith as a condition of employment.
Have a genuine desire to work closely with older adults.
Be capable of responding appropriately during emergency situations.
Demonstrate sensitivity, empathy, and a sincere interest in supporting frail and memory-impaired individuals.
Be reliable, flexible, patient, caring, and able to maintain an appropriate sense of humor.
Be able to manage the mental and emotional stresses associated with working with memory-impaired individuals.
Be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including providing residents with hands-on assistance and physical support.
Be able to successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
Previous experience working with older adults, frail individuals, residents experiencing memory impairment, or in a residential-care environment is preferred.
Working Conditions
Employees must comply with all established dress-code and uniform requirements.
The position includes physical demands associated with resident care, personal assistance, housekeeping, laundry, meal service, activities, and emergency response.
Employees may be exposed to inappropriate behaviors or combativeness from residents.
Work is performed in a smoke-free facility and on smoke-free grounds.
